The fortress is one of the best-preserved parts of the imperial fortification system of the city of Olomouc from the second half of the 19th century. Its history dates back to 1850, when the construction site was visited by Emperor Franz Joseph I and Russian Tsar Nicholas. There are 2 halls and a lounge available for social or corporate events.

The main entrance to the building is in the English neo-Gothic style of the Windsor type. The fort was built between 1850 and 1854 according to the project of Julius von Wurmb. The area has about 60,000 m2 and is registered as an immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It also includes a museum with an exhibition thematically focused on fortress construction and military history of the 19th century.

The Citadel Inn, located in the redoubt of the fortress, opens for social and corporate events, weddings and banquets. Concerts, small theaters, seminars and trainings are held in the adjacent halls.

The entire Fort XVII complex is a popular location for large teambuilding events, children's days, historical battles and fairs.
